Disaster assistance has been made available for the local government areas of Maranoa and Paroo in Southern Queensland after storms, heavy rain and isolated flooding in late April (2019).
Assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-Queensland Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
Minister for Natural Disaster and Emergency Management David Littleproud said the storms had left the local councils with expensive repair bills.
“This will make sure people in the Paroo Shire and Maranoa Regional Council areas have the roads they need,” Minster Littleproud said.
“This shows our commitment to stand with regional communities that have been hit by disasters.
“This will also help with the cost of the local disaster response.”
Queensland Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Craig Crawford said the upper level trough caused moderate to high flooding and numerous road closures, particularly at waterways.
“For three days the region was lashed by heavy rain, resulting in some roads being swamped, damaging their integrity and isolating communities,” Minister Crawford said.
“Roads are the lifeblood for regional communities and are vital for anyone travelling to work, moving stock and freight or going to school.
“By working together, the Commonwealth and Queensland governments are ensuring that the Maranoa and Paroo regions are supported in their recovery.”
