Opera Australia brings Don Giovanni to Goulburn

Opera Australia brings Don Giovanni to Goulburn

Opera Australia’s 2026 National Tour is heading to Goulburn, bringing Mozart’s darkly comic Don Giovanni to the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre on Tuesday 1 September.

Directed by Australian playwright Michael Gow, the production features 1950s-inspired staging, a cast of Opera Australia singers and a live chamber orchestra.

Adding a local connection to the touring production, young singers from Goulburn’s Hume Conservatorium will join the professional cast and musicians for the performance.

Opera with plenty of drama

One of Mozart’s best-known operas, Don Giovanni follows the exploits of the notorious womaniser Don Giovanni, combining comedy and scandal with increasingly dark consequences.

For regional audiences who may not regularly attend opera, the production offers an accessible opportunity to experience a major Opera Australia performance close to home.

The opera is performed in Italian with English surtitles and runs for approximately two and a half hours, including one interval.

30 years of regional touring

Opera Australia’s National Tour is celebrating 30 years of taking professional opera to regional and remote communities.

Since the touring program began in 1996, it has delivered more than 720 performances to more than 330,000 people across 139 locations.

On 1 September, it will be Goulburn’s turn.
