Designer crossbreed dogs may not be any healthier than their purebred counterparts, according to a recent study.

The study by international researchers surveyed the owners of approximately 9,400 dogs, comparing the health of purebred breeds such as Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Cocker Spaniels, Labrador Retrievers, and Poodles with their crossbred counterparts, including Cavapoos, Cockapoos, and Labradoodles.

The findings revealed no significant overall difference in the likelihood of developing common health disorders between purebred and crossbred dogs. In fact, crossbreeds had higher odds for 7% of the health conditions studied and lower odds for 6.4% of them.

This research challenges the common perception that designer crossbreeds are inherently healthier than purebred dogs. The study suggests that, when it comes to health, crossbreeds may not have a clear advantage over their purebred cousins.
