During August, staff from the University of Tasmania and the Migrant Resource Centre will be stepping up to celebrate and connect with their diverse community.
Four “Move Together Walk” events are scheduled at the University’s main campuses, starting Monday, August 5th, aiming to increase awareness and support for migrants and refugees in Tasmania, and to raise funds for the Migrant Resource Centre.
The walks will take place in Hobart, Launceston, and Burnie, attended by University staff, including regional leaders, and prominent figures from the Migrant Resource Centre. These events coincide with the University’s annual 10,000 Steps Challenge, encouraging staff to stay active and engaged during winter.
This year’s challenge theme, “Move Together,” aligns with the Migrant Resource Centre’s fundraising initiative, where a key figure recently walked over 300km to raise $65,000. This partnership highlights the value of collaboration, inclusiveness, and community support.
A memorandum of understanding between the University and the Migrant Resource Centre was signed earlier this year, fostering collaboration on research, professional development, and knowledge-sharing.
The University and the Migrant Resource Centre’s commitment to diversity and community engagement is evident in these efforts to support and celebrate Tasmania’s culturally diverse population.
