Tender awarded for the non-potable pipeline project

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) has awarded the tender for the construction of the non-potable pipeline project, a key element of the Water for the Future Strategy that aims to provide drought security for Dubbo through the access of additional ground water.

JONISHAN Pty Ltd was selected as the successful tenderer after a comprehensive tender process. The company has significant experience having operated 25 years’ as a pipe-laying civil contractor.

Mayor of the Dubbo Region Councillor Ben Shields said he was pleased to have Jonishan on board for the project.

“The non-potable pipeline project will take ground water from recreational bores to the John Gilbert Water Treatment Plant in times of severe drought. The dual pipeline will also allow recycled water from the Dubbo Sewage Treatment Plant to replace non-potable groundwater,” said Councillor Shields.

“Jonishan has extensive experience in the pipe-laying industry and following a thorough tender process I am pleased they have been selected to complete this critical drought project.”

Surveying and non-destructive digging has commenced and will take approximately four (4) weeks. The results from these investigative works will then inform the detailed design process for the pipeline construction, for estimated completion in early 2021.

Local Member for Dubbo, Dugald Saunders said he was pleased to see the project commence.

“In June of last year (2019) I announced $30m of NSW Government funding for Dubbo Regional Council to explore and implement ways of improving the region’s water supply,” said Mr Saunders.

“One of the measures that will be funded using this financial assistance from the state is this pipeline, which will go a long way towards providing a sustainable resource to the city going forward.

“I am glad to see things are progressing on a project that will have a huge long-term benefit for Dubbo and other parts of our region,” said Mr Saunders.

Director of Jonishan Pty Ltd, John Shannon is looking forward to working on the project.

“The team at Jonishan are delighted to have the opportunity to deliver the non-potable water pipeline scheme for Dubbo Regional Council. We look forward to helping safeguard one of the region’s most precious resource in times of drought, drinking water,” said Mr Shannon.

“We are committed to delivering the project on time and budget with the hope to create a strong working relationship with Dubbo Regional Council through building this much-needed infrastructure.”

Dubbo Regional Council received 19 tender submissions for the non-potable pipeline from companies Australia-wide.
