Local search has regional reach! Latest installment of Club Local coming soon

Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) has connected with Songwriters and Original Musicians Association Dubbo Inc. (SOMAD) to help raise the profile of original music artists in the region, to develop the support base for the original music scene and its artists, and to provide a performance space.

The DRTCC, Australia’s award-winning Performing Arts Centre of the Year 2019 (Drover Award) is now regular digs for many local and regional performing artists thanks to the Club Local series. Following on from the success of the inaugural Club Local cabaret evening in September and Club Local—Swinging Sixties evening in October, the community can now look forward to Club Local—Regionally Yours on 31 October 2020 at 7.30 pm.

“Word is out that the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre is the newest home for local talent, from not only Dubbo, but even further afield. We’re continuing to build on the reputation we have as the premier place for performing arts in regional NSW,” said Mayor of the Dubbo Region, Councillor Ben Shields.

Andy Nelson, a singer-songwriter, hails from the Central West and is known for his lyrical and rustic poetic style with enchanting guitar playing about family, love and loss. He will be performing with his friends Jon Wilby on strings including banjo and Amy Viola whose style meshes jazz and folk with her background in classical music.

The evening’s line-up includes SOMAD members, singer-songwriter Clinton Hoy, a Dubbo local who worked in Sydney and abroad in the music industry returning to Dubbo 13 years ago. If he could write songs all day—he would. Brandon Troutman, a proud Biripi man based in Dubbo has been touring as an original music artist for over 10 years and writes and sings authentically from the heart – he’ll also be taking to the stage.

“A lot of these musicians have been sharing their original work via social media during the COVID-19 period—how awesome will it be to perform on stage with people who appreciate and support local musicians and original work?” said Councillor Shields.

DRTCC Manager, Linda Christof, said “We will continue the monthly Club Local series in the cabaret format for as long as it is feasible—it’s a great concept. There will be tables of 8 or less, with the Oxley Room bar operating throughout the evening and people can BYO a picnic platter. It’s an enjoyable, safe and affordable evening out with family and friends. Whether there are 70 or 170 people—the atmosphere is one of comradery—friendship and community.”
