Ballarat women invited to ‘Make your Move’ this Women's Health Week

At a time when health has never been so important, Jean Hailes for Women’s Health, along with YMCA Ballarat, City of Ballarat, Sports Central, Ballarat Community Health & Women’s Health Grampians, are encouraging women and girls of Ballarat to ‘make their move’ this Women’s Health Week.

‘Make Your Move’ Ballarat is a community partner for this year’s Women’s Health Week. The campaign held annually in September – this year (2020) from 7-11 September – is the biggest week in Australia focusing on good health and wellbeing for women and girls. It is a timely reminder for women to take positive and proactive steps towards being healthy, in mind and body.

“The City of Ballarat is delighted to be a partner of the Make Your Move event during Women’s Health Week,” says Cr Ben Taylor, Mayor of the City of Ballarat. “We encourage all women to be mindful of their health, particularly in these current stressful times, so do not ignore any health problems you might have.”

Catherine Kennedy of Make Your Move Group & Ballarat Community Health says the inaugural Make Your Move event in Ballarat was “such a success last year”.

“The really positive feedback about the event and the importance women placed on having opportunities to take time out for themselves, to look after their own physical and mental health makes us excited to be once again involved with Jean Hailes in supporting this year’s Women’s Health Week 2020,” she says.

“We encourage women of all backgrounds and walks of life to get involved. Obviously, our events will be a little different this year with restrictions due to COVID-19, but we have planned two great online events which you can join in from your home.”.

With issues such as COVID-19 placing stress on their lives, it’s important that women don’t overlook their overall health and wellbeing, says Brenda Jones, Women’s Health Week campaign manager.

“Women’s Health Week will be a great reminder that we need to try to take time out to check in on our health,” says Ms Jones. “Whether it’s scheduling a health check, setting aside time to check in on your mental wellbeing, or even arranging virtual walking sessions with friends via video. And, of course, signing up to womenshealthweek.com.au to learn more about looking after your health and wellbeing.”

“Your physical and mental health is too important to ignore or neglect,” says Cr Taylor. “I look forward to joining you during Women’s Health Week and participating in the helpful online events that will be available during the week.”

If you can’t make it to one of the Make Your Move events, you can still sign up to receive free health material including podcasts, quizzes, videos, recipes and practical health tips. Check in on your health and wellbeing this Women’s Health Week, 7-11 September 2020. Visit www.womenshealthweek.com.au for further information.
