Entries are now open for the second edition of the Dick and Joan Green Family Award for Tasmanian History, a prestigious prize worth $25,000.
First launched in 2017, the biennial book prize recognises high-quality, published work that shapes our understanding of Tasmania’s history and culture.
The Green Family created the award in partnership with the University of Tasmania to commemorate the contribution Joan and the late Dick Green made to the State.
Caroline Johnston, one of Dick and Joan’s daughters, said the Green family was pleased to continue their support for the award following a successful first edition.
“The family was thrilled with the quality of applications for the first award, and we were delighted with the judges’ selection of the winning book, Into the Heart of Darkness by Dr Rebe Taylor,” Mrs Johnston said.
Entries are open from today, 1 July 2019, until Friday, 6 September 2019.
To be eligible, books must be predominantly about Tasmanian history or historical fiction that draws on Tasmanian history for its subject matter. Books must have been first published between 1 July 2017 and 30 June 2019.
The shortlisting process will take place in 2020, with the winner announced in June 2020.
