Youth Inspired by Former NRL Star Todd Carney in Dubbo

Members of the Dubbo Regional Council Youth Council were among 100 young people who gathered at Victoria Park No. 1 Oval this week to meet former NRL great Todd Carney.

Carney visited Dubbo as part of the Reboot Mindset Academy, the charity he co-founded with Mitchell Pearce, sharing his story of talent, adversity and transformation. In a Q&A session with Youth Council members Brendan Fernando Fuller and Ashton Jones, Carney spoke candidly about overcoming public setbacks, alcohol misuse and mental health challenges.

Youth Development Officer Charmaine Mara said the event supported Council’s goals around wellbeing, leadership and inclusion. “We designed this event to engage young people across the Dubbo Local Government Area, particularly those at risk or disengaged, to give them tools to build confidence, emotional regulation and a positive mindset,” she said.

Carney, who played for the Canberra Raiders, Sydney Roosters and Cronulla Sharks, is now a mentor helping young people build resilience and make positive choices, a message that resonated strongly with Dubbo’s youth.
