Farmers ‘Weather it Together’ to support wellbeing in tough seasons

A new farmer-led campaign is encouraging South Australian farmers to look after themselves and one another during challenging times.

Weather it Together, developed by the ifarmwell team at the University of South Australia in collaboration with local farmers and supported by industry groups, promotes four key wellbeing habits: Keep Connected, Focus on what you can control, Get Active and Ask for Help.

Led by Associate Professor Kate Gunn, the campaign draws on both research and real farming experience to help rural communities manage stress and uncertainty. “Farmers have always faced challenges, but they shouldn’t have to face them alone,” she said.

Weather it Together follows one of South Australia’s most difficult dry periods and aims to provide practical strategies that build resilience. The campaign will feature on regional TV, radio, print and online, sharing stories of connection, movement and hope from local farmers.

Over the coming months, the message will also reach clubs, pubs, GP clinics, service stations and community hubs across regional South Australia, anywhere farmers gather.

Supported by groups including Primary Producers SA, Grain Producers SA, Livestock SA and the SA Dairyfarmers’ Association, the campaign reminds farmers that seeking help and staying connected are signs of strength.
