Coastal infrastructure to bolster Western Australia’s Recovery Plan

Two coastal infrastructure projects worth a combined $11 million have received funding as part of the WA Government’s latest tranche of WA Recovery Plan initiatives.

A range of community and sports infrastructure projects will share a $300 million funding pool aimed at creating an ongoing pipeline of work for local small businesses and contractors.

A total of $170 million will go towards the community infrastructure package, while $130 million will go towards the sports facilities package – both funding projects across all parts of the State.

As part of the $170 million community infrastructure package, the WA Government will address two major coastal infrastructure projects:

  • $9.69 million to replace Woodman Point Jetty in Coogee; and
  • $1.3 million for planning for the Tantabiddi Boat Ramp redevelopment in Exmouth.

The funding for Woodman Point Jetty will cover demolition of the old structure, which is at the end of its life, and construction of a newer and safer jetty fit for recreational use.

The replacement jetty will be built to the south of the old structure, with the existing concrete piles that were installed in 1938 to be left in place to acknowledge local heritage and to remain a continued attraction for divers.

Meanwhile, we have also secured funds to progress the vision for the Tantabiddi Boat Ramp near Exmouth, where Western Australians have been holidaying in record numbers recently.

The current boat ramp frequently operates at capacity and will require more launching lanes in coming years to manage the forecast growth in boating and tourism.

The $1.3 million will enable the Tantabiddi Boat Ramp to progress with the research and planning for a final concept plan.
