Tasmania welcomes new luxury stay and vineyard

A new luxury accommodation and vineyard experience is set to open on Tasmania’s East Coast in June 2026, with the launch of Wineglass Bay Estate and its onsite vineyard, Kitty’s Mistake.

Located near Freycinet National Park, Wineglass Bay Estate will comprise a limited collection of architecturally designed retreats set along the water’s edge. Each retreat looks out across the vast Moulting Lagoon, capturing expansive sunsets and, on occasion, the natural phenomenon of Tasmania’s auroras. The estate offers a considered stay that balances privacy, landscape, and understated luxury, drawing on Tasmania’s natural textures, muted tones, and coastal light rather than overt opulence.

Alongside the accommodation, the estate will introduce Kitty’s Mistake Vineyard, a small, cool-climate vineyard planted within the grounds. Named after a local landmark and long-held coastal story, the vineyard reflects the estate’s broader philosophy: not lost, but found. Initial plantings focus on Pinot Noir, selected for its suitability to the region’s soils, maritime climate and slow, expressive growing conditions.

“The intention was to create a stay that sits quietly within its environment, offering the comfort and considered detail of a five-star hotel, with the privacy and space more often associated with a private stay,” said Kim Alfeldi, owner of Wineglass Bay Estate.

Wineglass Bay Estate has been developed with a deliberate focus on quality over scale. With a limited number of stays available, the offering is aimed at travellers seeking meaningful, place-led experiences rather than volume tourism. Guests will be encouraged to engage with the surrounding landscape, local producers and seasonal rhythms of Tasmania’s East Coast, positioning the estate as a base for slow travel in one of the state’s most visited regions.

The opening comes at a time when Tasmania continues to attract strong interstate interest, particularly from New South Wales and Victoria, with travellers increasingly drawn to immersive, high-quality accommodation that connects them to place. The addition of an on-site vineyard further strengthens the region’s appeal, contributing to Tasmania’s growing reputation for cool-climate wine and experiential tourism.

Wineglass Bay Estate will welcome its first guests from 10 June 2026, with an opening stay offering available for a limited time. Early guests will be among the first to experience the estate and its vineyard as they begin their story together.
