Have your say: Fisheries resource sharing framework

The draft Commonwealth fisheries resource sharing framework is now open for public consultation until 22 September 2020.

Assistant Minister for Forestry and Fisheries Jonno Duniam encouraged all those with an interest in Commonwealth fisheries to take part in this important consultation and have their say on the draft framework.

“This will benefit commercial, recreational and Indigenous fishers accessing Commonwealth fisheries by giving them greater certainty about access to our shared fisheries resources,” Assistant Minister Duniam said.

“The framework will provide a clear, equitable way to guide the sharing of Commonwealth fisheries resources among fishers where a formal agreement is needed.

“Having a sustainable and strong fishing industry is a key priority for the Australian Government.

“I encourage commercial, recreational and Indigenous fishers; and state and Northern Territory fisheries management stakeholders to have their say on this important plan.

“Public consultation will help inform the draft framework, and to ensure fair and reasonable access to our shared marine resources in Commonwealth-managed waters.

“The Commonwealth Fisheries Resource Sharing Framework was an important election commitment and will support our plan to grow Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to $100 billion industries by 2030.”

A final framework is set to be released by the end of 2020.
