Communities Leading the Charge Against Invasive Pests

The Victorian Government is strengthening Victoria’s frontline response to invasive pests by supporting Community Pest Management Groups to deliver practical, community-led projects across the state.

Minister for Agriculture Ros Spence has announced the recipients of the Partnerships Against Pests grants program, which aims to support local and regional initiatives targeting priority pest species through collaboration, education, and on-the-ground action.

Funding allocations include:

  • $76,553 over 12 months for the Victorian Blackberry Taskforce to work with communities on innovative and practical approaches to blackberry management.
  • $44,900 for the Victorian Rabbit Action Network to continue delivering the Community Leadership in Rabbit Management Course, plus $31,400 over two years to produce a rabbit exclusion fencing video series.
  • $99,000 over two years to develop a directory to manage public enquiries relating to rabbits, gorse and serrated tussock.
  • $47,500 over two years for the Victorian Serrated Tussock Working Party to support business partnerships that strengthen long-term financial sustainability.

In total, $347,753 will support these initiatives, focusing on improved planning, stronger local leadership and sustained coordination on state-wide pest management priorities.
