The Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade’s annual cow sale will be taking place next month to sell cattle bred for northern Australia’s conditions and markets.
The auction will see 100 Brahman and 50 Tropical Composite on offer next Wednesday, 4 August 2021.
Holding the auction online at auctionsplus.com.au ensures that COVID-19 health and safety measures can be met.
The online sales of the highly fertile and climatically adapted cows also ensures these cattle are available to buyers from across northern Australia, despite any border closures. The annual bull sale held earlier this month attracted interest from the industry across the Northern Territory, as well as Western Australia.
The bull sale in July 2021 saw 71 Brahmans and Tropical Composites auctioned off on the day, while 92 bulls were bought at the annual sale in 2020.
The cows being offered for sale are from the same breeding program as the bulls, with the online sales being managed by AuctionsPlus and a full catalogue provided by Elders.
The department has been running breeding programs for about 30 years as part of a focus on supporting cattle production in the region.
The programs have been focused on selecting traits relevant to Northern Territory environmental conditions and live export production systems, including fertility, functionality and adaptation.
Interested buyers can sign up now to bid via auctionsplus.com.au to take part in the DITT Annual Female Reduction Sale which starts at 10:00am on Wednesday, 4 August 2021.
