Sheppard to headline exciting open-air concert in Gladstone

Brisbane band Sheppard is set to rock Gladstone’s Blain Park as the headline act of Air Beats, an exciting open-air concert proudly presented by Gladstone Regional Council.

Sheppard stormed onto the Australian and international music scene in 2014 with its number-one hit Geronimo from debut album Bombs Away.

The 2014 ARIA Award winner for Best Group will also perform at Saturday’s AFL Grand Final ahead of their visit to Gladstone over two nights on Friday and Saturday 20-21 November 2020.

Joining Sheppard will be Hayley Marsten, who returns home to Gladstone following the release of her 2019 debut album Spectacular Heartbreak, which has been streamed almost 500,000 times.

Several local musicians will join Sheppard and Hayley Marsten, with Chris Bax Trio, Jason O’Hara, Nathan Bedford, Jack & Jacinta, Smiley n Wayno Duo, Thomo and Wal Duo and Chris Schofield.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said Air Beats would be an experience like no other with purpose built ‘beat boxes’ to be constructed for concert goers.

“The beat boxes will provide social groups of up to five people an exclusive party space to enjoy the concert safely while being socially distant from other attendees,” Councillor Burnett said.

“We’ve seen similar COVID-safe events held successfully in England in recent months, although Gladstone’s Air Beats will be the first of its kind in Queensland and possibly Australia.

“This event will continue to strengthen the Gladstone Region’s profile as a recognised event destination for Queenslanders, while also providing a new and unique experience for our community.

“Council is well equipped to ensure Air Beats is not only a whole lot of fun, but also delivered in a safe way.

“Tickets are expected to sell out quickly so visit to secure your very own beat box.”

Running from 6pm-11pm across both nights, tickets for the all ages event will go on sale from 9am on Friday 30 October 2020 with prices starting from $110 per beat box, ranging up to $200 per box depending on location.

No tickets will be available to purchase at the event and concert goers are asked not to attend if they have returned from overseas or a COVID-19 hotspot, have cold or flu-like symptoms or have been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 health emergency, conditions surrounding this event are subject to change.
