WA Bike Month is gearing up to be bigger and better than ever, with a record $50,000 in grants awarded to support 50 events to encourage people of all ages and abilities to give cycling a go.
The 2020 festivities will build on last year’s (2019) successful expansion of the well-established Bike Week to a month-long celebration of people riding bicycles for transport, recreation and fitness.
Thirty grants of up to $2,000 have been awarded to local governments, organisations and groups to host a diverse line-up of events that the entire community can get involved in. A further 20 minor grants of $200 have been awarded to organisations, including schools and workplaces, to support smaller bike riding activities and events.
The grants have been designed to support local, small businesses as WA continues its road to recovery out of COVID-19.
With funded events including breakfasts, bike tours and trail rides, scavenger hunts, and safety and skills building sessions, there is something for people of all cycling abilities.
WA Bike Month 2020 will be held from October 1 to 31 and is co-ordinated by WestCycle with the support of the Department of Transport.
The WA Government has allocated $200 million into upgrading cycling infrastructure across the State.
