Macquarie Regional Library launches Book Express

Macquarie Regional Library (MRL) is excited to offer a convenient, free home delivery service, Book Express, to allow members to access library resources at home.

Mayor of the Dubbo Region Councillor Ben Shields said the service would be available for the entire community, prioritising those residents who are housebound and unable to connect to Council’s online library services.

“As part of Dubbo Regional Council’s ongoing efforts to prioritise the community’s health and wellbeing with the COVID-19 pandemic, I’m proud to be announcing the Book Express service which will increase access to the wonderful things on offer from the Macquarie Regional Library,” Councillor Shields said.

Manager of Macquarie Regional Library, Kathryn McAlister said Book Express is a convenient way for residents in the Dubbo and Wellington urban areas to access library resources without leaving the safety of their own home. “While our libraries are closed we still want our residents to be mentally stimulated – particularly those that are isolated. Reading is a great way to maintain our mental wellbeing while observing social distancing guidelines,” Mrs McAlister said.

Council has developed safe and contactless home delivery methods to ensure the safety of staff and residents.

Interested residents are asked to register via phone for the service and complete a borrower’s profile. This will assist staff in supporting the borrower’s needs and wants in the service. Residents can also browse the online catalogue and request specific titles.Members can have up to 40 items on loan at any one time, including: books; audio-books, magazines; CDs and DVDs.

Book Express is a trial initiative to increase community access to the library during COVID-19. Depending on the community participation, Council may look to continue the service post COVID-19.

To register for the service, or to become a library member, contact the Dubbo Branch Library 6801 4510 or Wellington Branch Library 6840 1780.
