This weekend concludes the Mt Martha’s run at the idyllic The Briars estate with the musical spectacular Rocketman; the film follows the fantastical journey of transformation from shy piano prodigy Reginald Dwight into international superstar Elton John.
Saturday night screens the captivating whodunnit- Knives Out starring none other than Mr Bond- Daniel Craig himself. When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.
Sunday’s selection is a quintessentially Australian story – Ride Like A Girl will take viewers into the nostalgia of Australia’s first ever and only female Melbourne Cup winning jockey.
Moving a little closer to the city, Barefoot Cinema returns to the iconic Rippon Lea Estate from 29 January to 16 February 2020. Step back and take a little bit of extra time before the movie to explore these magical gardens and the majestic heritage-listed mansion.
The season will then go west for the first time to the Victorian State Rose Garden at Werribee Park from 19 February to 4 March, 2020. This remarkable venue offers the opportunity to sit amongst 5,000 magnificent roses and explore the wider mansion estate.
The season has some great flicks for a girls night out – with the ultimate romance, Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo & Juliet on Valentine’s Day at Rippon Lea Estate, the delightful Little Women (Rippon Lea and Werribee), star-studded Bombshell, featuring Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron (Rippon Lea and Werribee) and the truly beloved Dirty Dancing (Werribee).
Barefoot Cinema is also delighted to announce a partnership with Melbourne Queer Film Festival, coming in to its 30th year with a special screening at Rippon Lea Estate, staging a night to remember with a screening of the legendary modern classic The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert. Before the film, there will be some very special live entertainment plus a sneak peek of the 2020 MQFF program for their festival in March.
