Great progress on accreditation of water resource plans

The final Water Resource Plans for South Australian and Queensland parts of the Murray-Darling basin have been signed off and are now in force.

Minister Littleproud applauded both states for completing the work that will improve transparency in the Basin.

“This clearly outlines how water is managed in both states,” Minister Littleproud said.

“Can I also acknowledge Victoria for submitting their resource plans for assessment.

“The plans outline how water is used in specific regions, how much water can be taken and sets annual limits.

“Completing these plans will give everyone in the Basin greater confidence in the system.

“These help to deliver fair and consistent water use right across the basin.

“Communities want to know these plans stack up and will deliver what they need.

“This is an important milestone in the delivery of the Basin Plan.

“We’ve now got to get the remaining plans in by the end of the year (2019).

“Once they’re all in action, they’ll help to restore a healthy river system.”
