Bega Valley Shire Council has a new Mayor with Cr Russell Fitzpatrick elected to the role through until the next Council elections in September 2021.
Cr Fitzpatrick defeated Cr Robyn Bain 5 votes to 3 (with Cr Kristy McBain abstaining) in a ballot during this afternoon’s regular meeting of Council.
Cr Fitzpatrick has served on Council since 2009 and is the third Mayor in the past five months after Cr Kristy McBain relinquished the position before successfully contesting the by-election for the Federal seat of Eden-Monaro and Cr Sharon Tapscott served from early May through until today.
Cr Tapscott didn’t seek re-election today and indicated she intends on stepping down from Council in the near future due to family reasons.
Cr Liz Seckold was elected to serve as Deputy Mayor.
