Calling for nominations for the 2020 Dubbo Region Sports Awards!

The Dubbo Regional Sports Council, Mayor of the Dubbo Region, Councillor Ben Shields, the Federal Member for Parkes, The Honourable Mr Mark Coulton MP, the Federal Member for Calare, The Honourable Mr Andrew Gee MP, are joining forces to recognise the sports people of Dubbo and Wellington through its annual Sports Awards.

The Dubbo Region Sports Awards recognise the talented sports people of Wellington and Dubbo and celebrate the important people behind the scenes that dedicate endless hours to their respective clubs and organisations.

The Mayor of the Dubbo Region, Councillor Ben Shields said the Dubbo Region has an extremely strong sporting community and the COVID-19 pandemic had shown its resilience.

“Sport is extremely important for any community, as it promotes social connections, physical wellbeing and friendship. That is more critical than ever given what the world is going through,” said Councillor Shields. “These awards are an opportunity to celebrate all the dedicated individuals who make a positive impact on sport in our region whether as a participant or behind the scenes.”

Dubbo and Wellington Sporting Clubs, individuals and the community are encouraged to submit nominations for the following categories:

  • Individual or Team Achievement such as national or state representation as a player, coach, referee/umpire or official; NSW country/state/national competition success, or high-level single performance, (eg Australian or state record).
  • Individual Contribution to sport by an individual including coaches, referees/umpires and administrators with a minimum of five years’ service.
  • Community Contribution to sport by organisations, (eg Lions, Rotary, Apex), media organisations, or sponsors to a particular sporting event, facility or for continuous support over a minimum of five years.

The annual awards night is unconfirmed at this stage due to COVID-19 restrictions, however, Dubbo Regional Sports Council is enthusiastic about recognising those who have made significant contribution to sports across the region.
