Budget 2021 will see $20 million allocated to the upgrading of the Frances Bay Mooring Lock.
It is necessary to replace the lock and adjacent infrastructure to ensure the long term sustainability of Frances Bay Mooring Basin.
Mostly used for commercial vessels, the Frances Bay Mooring Basin is a key economic enabler for the Territory with 85 berths available for vessels.
Fisheries, the seafood industry, pearlers and commercial operators utilise the basin. By investing in a new lock we are providing long-term certainty for existing businesses and greater confidence for new investment opportunities.
Work is underway in preparing the final scope of works for the lock replacement, which will include replacement of key structural elements of:
- Tie bars; and
- Replacement of the deteriorating concrete structures.
Tenders for this project are set to be released later this year.
