Qantas, in partnership with the WA Government, will trial affordable airfares between Perth and Exmouth over the peak travel season in 2019.
The $169 fares will apply from June 7, 2019 to flights from Friday to Monday which are booked 45 days ahead of travel. This is a saving of about $180 for a return trip.
The trial is part of the State Government’s commitment to work with airlines and other partners to introduce affordable fares where possible.
It follows the introduction of special weekend fares between Perth and Broome in 2018 which has seen more than 19,000 passengers fly for under $200, contributing to a significant increase in leisure bookings and the average length of stay for visitors in Broome.
The $169 fares can be booked online or through travel agents from today (April 11 2019).
If successful, the State Government and Qantas will expand the trial.
The affordable fares follow a recent announcement by Avis and regional tourism organisation, Australia’s Coral Coast, of a trial for discounted relocation fees if hiring a car to drive one-way.
From April 1 to October 31, in 2019 and 2020, customers will only pay a $250 relocation fee if hiring a car to drive from Perth to Exmouth, and $150 if hiring from Exmouth and driving the vehicle back to Perth. Additional daily hire fees still apply.
