Acoustic infrastructure upgrades in Territory schools

The Territory Government is investing $1.65 million in acoustic upgrades in Territory schools to support high-quality and inclusive education for students.

Improving the acoustic quality of the classrooms makes it easier for our children to learn and hear.

75 classrooms across the Territory are set to receive these works, with a contract for tenders to be released shortly, supporting local jobs.

The first tranche of 20 schools are in remote parts on the Territory and include:

  • Arlparra (Utopia) School
  • Gapuwiyak School
  • Gunbalanya School
  • Maningrida School
  • Milingimbi School
  • Shepherdson College
  • Tennant Creek Primary School
  • Elliott School
  • Nganmarriyanga School
  • Alpurrurulam School
  • Borroloola School
  • Ntaria School
  • Kalkaringi School
  • Papunya School
  • Lajamanu School
  • Alyarrmandumanja Umbakumba School
  • Angurugu School
  • Barunga School
  • Yuendumu School
  • Ngukurr School

This funding comes in addition to the $5.2 million Building for Inclusion funding announced in January 2020, where 21 urban classrooms were fitted with specialist amplification systems, designed to support students with hearing difficulties and those who need additional support to focus in class.

These projects support the Territory Government’s Framework for Inclusion 2019-2029 program to building an inclusive education system that supports students and ensures they have access to infrastructure that allows them the opportunity to engage in quality education services.
