The Queensland Government has announced it will open new oil and gas tenure in the Taroom Trough, awarding exploration rights across an area of about 750sq km.Supporters of the decision say expanding exploration opportunities could help strengthen long-term energy supply and reliability, with flow-on benefits for households and businesses that rely on gas for power generation, manufacturing and agricultural operations.
Queensland LNP Senator Susan McDonald welcomed the announcement, describing it as a step toward improving affordability and security of supply for Queenslanders and Australian industry.
Any exploration and potential future development would be subject to the relevant regulatory approvals and compliance requirements.
