People in Edenhope will have access to a bigger, better library and community space thanks to a funding boost from the Victorian Government.
Victorian Minister for Local Government Adem Somyurek turned the first sod on the $1.8 million redevelopment of the Edenhope Cultural Hub and Library.
The Victorian Government is delivering $600,000 through the Living Libraries Infrastructure Fund to the project, which is being delivered by the West Wimmera Shire Council.
The project will see a complete redevelopment of the current Mechanics Institute Hall site in Edenhope into a new multi-user community hub and library.
The new library facility will have more floor space and include a dedicated collection space, large foyer, program and display space and meeting room – as well as improved kitchen and public restroom facilities.
The facility will be more accessible and support an increasing number of visitors with a diverse range of needs and interests.
The Living Libraries Infrastructure Program helps Victorian councils upgrade and adapt library facilities to meet the needs of expanding and growing communities.
The Victorian Government has invested more than $18 million in 58 infrastructure projects through the Program.
Libraries provide free public access to information and technology, literacy support, and training and skills development that engage communities and enrich community life.
