The Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) extends its congratulations to the newly-appointed Minister for Local Government the Hon. Shaun Leane MP and looks forward to a strong and collaborative partnership.
The Local Government Ministerial portfolio is a crucial link between the state and local governments, and the MAV is excited to meet with Minister Leane to discuss a number of issues currently facing the local government sector.
With council elections scheduled for October 2020, the recent introduction of the Local Government Act, the controversial shift to mandated single member wards and numerous other pressing matters, the new Minister will have to hit the ground running as local government faces an unprecedented overhaul.
MAV President Cr Coral Ross is looking forward to cultivating a strong working relationship with our new Minister.
“Governments work best when they work alongside one another in pursuit of collective goals for the best outcomes for our community, and we look forward to meeting Minister Leane as soon as possible to discuss a wide range of issues important to councils, residents and ratepayers.
“As the legislated peak body for local government in Victoria, the MAV works in partnership with and advocates for all 79 councils in our state for the best outcomes for their communities – and of course all Victorians.
“We are excited to share our vision for local government with Minister Leane to help our communities thrive.”
