Tackling climate challenges at high profit in grains workshop

How some of New South Wales top grain growers are managing farming operations in an increasingly variable climate will be a key element of ‘High Profits from Grain’ workshops being held.

The free, half-day workshops will delve into the results of a three-year national investment by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), which benchmarked more than 300 grain farms to identify profit drivers in different regions.

AgriPath agribusiness consultant Simon Fritsch, said the workshops would offer growers insights into what drives profit in each agro-ecological zone and how technical information can inform on-farm decisions.

“Top grain growers show a profit of around 10 per cent of assets managed, while the average show closer to three per cent over the long term,” Mr Fritsch said.

“This research examined what the top 20 per cent of businesses were doing differently to achieve this.

“As part of this year’s (2019) workshops we will also include management strategies focused on developing profitable and resilient businesses in environments where we experience highly variable climatic conditions.”

The workshops will also provide growers with key information to:

  • Understand the performance of the top 20 per cent of growers in their region;
  • Build knowledge around profit drivers that make a difference in different agronomic regions;
  • Identify the management traits of a top 20 per cent of growers;
  • And give them access to diagnostic tools and processes to easily assess your own business performance.

Delivered by Agripath consultants Simon Fritsch and Emily Sims the workshops will be held from 9.00am -1.30pm on:

July 29 2019 – Ardlethan (Ardlethan Bowling Club)
July 30 2019 – Young (Young Golf Club)
July 31 2019 – Parkes (Parkes Services Club).

There is no cost to growers or farm advisers, but registration is essential. To register or for more information contact 02 6766 9051 or admin@agripath.com.au.
