Solid foundation for Hanging Rock's future prosperity

To safeguard Hanging Rock’s cultural importance, the Victorian Government has acquired Hanging Rock’s East Paddock and introduced a fresh master plan.

Minister for Environment Ingrid Stitt revealed a $3 million investment to establish a clear roadmap for preserving Hanging Rock’s iconic status.

The newly acquired East Paddock will now become an integral part of the Hanging Rock Reserve, guaranteeing its safeguarding for the years ahead.

Upcoming events at the East Paddock will be thoughtfully managed to minimise any impact on the environment and its surroundings.

Extensive consultation with Traditional Owners groups and the Macedon Ranges Shire Council has given rise to the Hanging Rock Precinct Master Plan. This plan outlines strategies to promote the cultural heritage of the region sustainably.

The plan charts a course for future enhancements, including creating a reforested ‘Songline’ walking trail and establishing a visitor centre serving as a hub for dining and educational activities.

Collaboration between the Victorian Government, Traditional Owners, and Macedon Ranges Shire Council is an ongoing effort, with the latter managing day-to-day operations at Hanging Rock for at least three more years.

These developments, including the Hanging Rock Precinct Master Plan and the East Paddock acquisition, align with the goals outlined in the 50-year Hanging Rock Strategic Plan, jointly approved by the Victorian Government and Macedon Ranges Shire Council in 2018.
