Red Centre Adventure Ride design tender awarded

The Territory Government has awarded the design tender for the West Macs Red Centre Adventure Ride to Coffey Services Australia Pty Ltd.

This project will support 10 local jobs.

These works will open up new adventure cycling tracks in the Red Centre and are part of the Territory Government’s $103 million Turbocharging Tourism stimulus package, which has so far generated an extra 57,000 holiday visitor bookings across the NT. The Government last week announced a TURBO2 package which will see a further $62.8 million invested into tourism over two years, building on the momentum of the first Turbocharging Tourism stimulus.

The Red Centre Adventure Ride will see more than 200 kilometres of tracks linking the Alice Springs Desert Park to Glen Helen in Tjoritja/West MacDonnell National Park, creating a unique trail adventure for riders of all skill levels.

All works will be done in consultation with Traditional Owners, Central Land Council and the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority.

With mountain biking and adventure tourism growing in popularity, this new offering is expected to attract thousands of additional visitors to Central Australia, injecting more money into the local economy, as well as creating new jobs and new business opportunities.

Construction is anticipated to start at the end of 2019. The ride will be opened in stages, with full completion expected late 2020.
