The Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) has welcomed funding to deliver an agricultural recovery project to assist farmers affected by widespread flooding in the north of the state earlier in 2019.
With the project recently commencing, four industry specific recovery officers have already begun providing targeted support and technical advice to impacted farmers in the initial stages of the recovery process to ensure they recover more resilient for future natural disasters.
QFF President Stuart Armitage thanked the Queensland and Australian Governments for their timely response through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements and support of Queensland’s farmers as they continue to rebuild.
“QFF has been advocating for a ‘shovel ready’ agricultural recovery program for years now, and this latest project is a step closer to the adoption of a more dynamic disaster management response for our sector,” Mr Armitage said.
“These industry recovery officers are proven to help with strategic, long-term farm recovery that ensures farmers recover faster, stronger and are better prepared for future events.”
“Disasters like these have lasting impacts on farmers and rural communities. It takes time to fully recover and this funding will deliver on ground assistance to help farmers as they continue to rebuild.”
“QFF and industry members CANEGROWERS, Growcom and Nursery & Garden Industry Queensland have partnered to deliver the six-month project that will provide long-term benefits on the farm, to local communities and the state economy.”
