Preparing emergency workers for a busy summer

The Government is working with the states and territories to better prepare all Australians ahead of another challenging summer weather season.

Emergency Management Australia and the Bureau of Meteorology have completed Disaster Preparedness Briefings across all jurisdictions.

Minister for Natural Disaster and Emergency Management David Littleproud said this summer will be testing and everyone needs to be prepared.

“We’ve already had tragic bushfires in Queensland and NSW,” Minister Littleproud said.

“It’s a stark reminder of the harm and hardship disasters can cause to our communities.

“We are working with the states and territories to put us on the front-foot this summer.

“The briefings bring together key stakeholders including state emergency services, so we all know what we’re in for and we can have a well-coordinated response.

“This is just one of the ways we are working to keep Australians safe this bushfire season.

“Our fire crews are dedicated, working selflessly to protect their local communities but everyone has a part in making sure we’re prepared for disasters.

“Information on how to prepare for disasters is available through state and territory authorities.”
