Police and Council seeking help in Rochdale Theatre attacks

Lismore City Council is extremely concerned about a series of arson attacks at the Rochdale Theatre in Goonellabah.

The 100 year-old building is owned by Lismore City Council and leased to the Lismore Theatre Company, a not-for-profit amateur theatre group.

Three fires appear to have been deliberately lit at the site in the past two weeks. Two of the fires were started in the gardens around the building, and on Wednesday night (15 May 2019) a wheelie bin was placed against a roller door and set ablaze.

The theatre’s head technician Luke Kane who lives nearby, said he had been alerted by the theatre’s alarm going off as it appears the would-be arsonist(s) may also have been trying to break into the building.

Police are investigating and are calling for help from anyone who may have information on this matter or if they see suspicious activity in the area. Lismore Police can be contacted on 6626 0599.
