More Homes In Ararat And Stawell In Building Blitz

More Victorians in the Grampians region will have a safe place to call home thanks to the Victorian Government, as the Big Housing Build moves into top gear.

The Victorian Government is investing $7.5 million to build 30 new homes in Ararat and $4.5 million to build 20 homes in Stawell for singles, couples and families facing homelessness.

In Ararat, eight homes are under construction – six one-bedroom townhouses and two three-bedroom family homes. Six more – three one-bedroom and three two-bedroom – are planned for the township.

A further 16 one-bedroom homes for people on the Victorian Housing Register will begin construction early next year.

These homes will create 13 direct and 45 indirect local jobs, not only providing secure and stable housing for those who need it most but also boosting the local economy.

This pipeline of funding for shovel-ready or in-progress projects has helped many builders and developers through the pandemic and continues to stimulate construction activity – and economies – across Victoria.

In Stawell, four homes are under construction – two one-bedroom and two two-bedroom homes – with a further 16 one-bedroom townhouses in planning. These projects are expected to create 28 local jobs.

The Big Housing Build is the largest single investment in social and affordable housing in Australia’s history – delivering more than 12,000 new homes and creating an average of 10,000 jobs per year over the next four years.

The investment includes $1.25 billion in regional areas – ensuring the economic and social benefits of the program are felt in communities across the state.
