Hort360 workshop for growers in the Wide Bay-Burnett

Growcom is encouraging horticulture growers in the Wide Bay-Burnett to attend a Hort360 workshop, on Thursday 9 May 2019, in Bundaberg.

This workshop is part of a series of workshops Growcom is running, throughout the Great Barrier Reef catchments, to assist growers in accessing the extensive information and resources available through the Hort360 program.

Growcom’s Hort360 Manager, Scott Wallace said Hort360 is a Best Management Practice (BMP) program designed to give growers a 360 degree view of their farm business operations.

“Participating in Hort360 is an excellent way for growers to benchmark their practices,” Mr Wallace said.

“The online platform is packed with resources, and can assist growers to identify on-farm improvements so they are operating at, or above, industry best practice standard.”

Through the Hort360 workshop series, Growcom is involving expertise from across the state to provide information to growers on all aspects of their horticulture farming practices and businesses. The Wide Bay-Burnett workshop will discuss Freshcare Environmental certification, precision agriculture, and use of Hort360.

Hort360 BMP Facilitator, Michelle Haase said that the workshops are an opportunity to walk growers through selected modules of Hort360.

“We set up a Hort360 profile for each horticulture business participating in the workshop, provide participants with an iPad or tablet, and then work through select modules together,” Ms Haase said.

“The workshops are an excellent opportunity to see how Hort360 can be used to its full extent, maximising benefits to growers.”

The Hort360 Wide Bay-Burnett workshop is an initiative of Growcom’s Hort360 Great Barrier Reef BMP Program, funded by the Queensland Government Reef Water Quality Program.

The workshop commences at 10am on Thursday 9 May 2019, at the Bundaberg Fruit & Vegetable Growers (BFVG) Boardroom. For more information or to register your attendance, email mhaase@growcom.com.au or call 0428 586 890.
