The Victorian Government is boosting support for young people to keep them out of the justice system.
Victorian Minister for Crime Prevention Ben Carroll visited The Youth Junction Incorporated in Sunshine to announce $1.4 million in Youth Crime Prevention Grants for seven organisations.
The projects have a strong track record in delivering the services that young people need to keep them out of trouble.
The grants are part of the Victorian Government’s work to reduce crime among young people aged between 10-24 years who have had contact with, or are at risk of being involved with, the criminal justice system.
The Youth Junction has received $200,000 for its Youth Umbrella Project, which will see them partner with a number of organisations including Victoria Police, Chin-Up, WEstJustice and YouthNow Incorporated.
The project connects young people with practical services and education and training programs to help empower them.
Since receiving a Youth Crime Prevention Grant, the Youth Umbrella Project has reached 200 disadvantaged culturally and linguistically diverse young people aged 12–24 in Brimbank.
With the extra $200,000 The Youth Junction Incorporated and partners hope to reach another 120 young people.
With this funding boost, the Victorian Government has invested close to $18 million into the Youth Crime Prevention Grants program since 2016.
