Construction on new homes begins in northwest Victoria

More Victorians will have a place to call home thanks to the Victorian Government’s investment in social housing, with construction now underway to deliver 39 new houses in Ballarat and Horsham.

Minister for Housing Richard Wynne visited the construction site of 14 new homes being built in Ballarat under a $5.8 million project, with a government investment of $4.5 million.

The Ballarat development will have a mixture of two, three and four-bedroom homes, and is expected to provide homes for 44 people, while also creating 52 local jobs.

At least $80 million has been earmarked for social housing projects in Ballarat as part of the Victorian Government’s $5.3 billion Big Housing Build.

The Horsham development of 25 new homes is an $8.1 million project, with a government investment of $6.3 million, that will provide a mixture of one and two-bedroom homes. The project will also create 72 local jobs.

Under the Big Housing Build at least $15 million will be invested in Horsham, providing homes for those who need it most.

Both the Ballarat and Horsham projects now underway are being built in partnership with Haven; Home, Safe, a community housing organisation that will manage the tenancies when complete.

The $5.3 billion Big Housing Build is the single largest investment in social and affordable housing in Australia’s history. The program includes $1.25 billion investment in regional areas, ensuring the economic and social benefits of the program are felt in communities across the state.
