Residents of the Pilbara region are set to benefit from the WA Government’s latest Budget, which will see an additional $13.8 million dedicated to specialist health services as part of the Pilbara Health Initiative over four years.
The program means there will be medical specialists at Karratha Health Campus, including access to:
- Emergency medicine specialists;
- Consultant surgeon;
- Consultant paediatrician;
- Specialist obstetrician; and
- Community midwife.
Under the program, pregnant women in the inland Pilbara area will be able to access enhanced and culturally appropriate midwifery care. The funding also allows for outreach services in Roebourne, Onslow, Tom Price and Paraburdoo.
Tom Price and Newman Health Services are also set to receive a boost with the implementation of a new women’s health program.
