Dubbo Regional Cycling Facility open to the public

To celebrate World Bicycle Day, Mayor of the Dubbo Region, Ben Shields is pleased to announce the gates of the brand new Dubbo Regional Cycling Facility will now be open to the general public.

The new cycling facility was completed earlier this year and is located on River Street, Dubbo. It features a 400m flat track velodrome and a 1,000m sealed criterium track.

Councillor Shields said this state-of-the-art community asset should be enjoyed by as many people as possible. “The Dubbo Regional Cycling Facility is home to the Dubbo Cycle Club and they have already held some major events at the new site. However, the facility is such a spectacular asset for our community, Council felt that it was appropriate to open it up for everyone to enjoy and more importantly have a safe place to cycle,” Councillor Shields said.

Manager of Recreation and Open Space Ian McAlister said the cycling facility is another state standard facility for the Dubbo Region. “Opening the cycling facility to the general public will continue to deliver social and health benefits to our community by promoting active participation. The brand new track will also help the Dubbo Cycling Club attract new members to continue the growth of their club, as well as attracting high-level cycling events that helps to support our economy,” Mr McAlister said.

The community are asked to take note of the rules of the site before utilising the cycle tracks. User groups such as the Dubbo Cycle Club hold seasonal bookings at the facility and have first right to use the facility during such times. Dubbo Regional Council asks that individuals please work around other user groups who hold a booking when using the facility.

Opening hours for the cycling facility will be from 6am – 6pm, and 6am – 8pm during daylight savings, 7 days a week. Access is via a pedestrian gate on rover Street Dubbo. The amenities onsite will not be open to the general public.
